MUNKHBOLD Birvaa's



B. Munkhbold is a composer who has been continuing the path of art of making music laid out by his grandfather D. Gonchig, known long song master in the early 20th century father G.Birvaa, one of the founders of modern Mongolian music and recognized composer in the mid and late 20th century. B. Munkhbold was taught by People’s Artist of Mongolia Tsolmon in the course of piano playing passed an entry exam to study at Music Conservatoire in Yerevan, Armenia. The rarest luck must have smiled on him for he became one of the two students of Arutenyan, world class composer and people’s artist and state prize winner and one of the most leading representatives of the Soviet classic music. Under the leadership and teaching by his remarkable composer, B.Munkhbold successfully studied and graduated from the course of music composing and theory between 1986 and 1992. Since 2005 B. Munkhbold has been working as a teacher of music composing and theory. Among his students are students from China.

To date, in his repertoire, he has 19 major solo music concerts, 8 music to stage and drama, 3 music to film and 2 music to puppet theatre. Munkhbold’s music repertoire is wide starting from classical concert to solo with traditional musical instrument to modern pop style music. That’s why his works are played by classic music orchestras, ethnic professional ensembles, jazz orchestra and pop bands. Munkhbold’s music has also been played overseas. His piano sonata was played by American pianist E. Kraus in 2012 and by Japanese pianist K. Kano in 2000 and his harp solo was played by Ch. Munkh-Erdene on stages of concert hall in Beijing and Shanghai. His music has brought him twice grand prize of “Altan Namar” National Music Festival in 2004 and 2009, second prize of “Altan Namar” National Music Festival in 2006 national music festival in Mongolia and prizes to “Morin khuur” festival in 2003 and 2007 and award for best music of “Yellow Sea” musical at “Gegeen muza” national theatre and play festival in 2009. His hard solo was identified the best of best and his concert with horse fiddle and yochin are now a must at professional musician contests in Mongolia. B. Minkhbold’s music has its own feature combining eastern and western rhythm and tempos under the background of Mongol type melodies. That’s why is music gives us a moment of enjoying the lyrical and beautiful music and masterful performance of musicians. B. Munkhbold was awarded the State Prize by President of Mongolia in 2009 for his music of harp and horse fiddle and piano solo music. The following year 2010 he staged a concert of his work including “Galdan Boshigt Khaan” symphony suite. B. Munkhbold, third generation composer, inspired by might and beauty of music world, is sharing with you his CD of selected music works.
